Jay's First Newsletter Issue!

Hey all,

Thank you all for signing up for my newsletter! I’m hoping this will be an effective way to stay in touch with people & share in public.

Since graduation, I have temporarily adopted simple living - spending slow days eating delicious homecooked food and figuring out how to use a weedwhacker for the first time. It’s quite liberating because, as a business major, my work has always been very intangible. It’s nice to climb the shed room and help fix a hole that a woodpecker bore out, to rough up my hands away from a keyboard.

Latest Happenings

  • Embarked on a “star trip” with 30 random people and $50,000 worth of telescopes. Saw the Milky Way, hiked a ton, and saw the ring nebula. It literally looked like a donut!

  • Attended my elementary school reunion and was recognized as the “most changed.”

  • Fought in traffic court again, except this time I pleaded “unemployment” to get my ticket reduced by $300 bones. Justice.

  • Strained my “teres major” trying to impress my friends with an extra-strong driver swing - I’m still mad at myself even while writing this.

  • Noticed that around 80% of my friends are younger siblings… anyone else realizing a similar trend?

Content for Consumption

  • Inspired by all my friends going to Japan, In Praise of Shadows is a 50-page commentary on Japanese architecture that beautifully illustrates the divide between Eastern and Western culture.

  • Hugging the X-Axis by David Perell argues that novelty is overrated in our commitment-phobic culture. I fully agree.

  • This video of Jackie Chan's parkour was so satisfying…

  • My friend Pavan also writes - check it out.

Hou’s Hacks

  • If you had a FB account before 2014 with your real name - register for this. Free $20 - $200 bucks!

  • If you don’t know what credit card churning is, search it up and score an extra few hundred dollars a year. No need to go overboard, once every few months is completely manageable.

  • Try typing “THX1138” on the computer Spotify App.

  • Travel recommendations for Europe, Japan/Taiwan, US (LAX/ORD/SFO) - DM me.
