Quitting a job, November updates

Emails change lives (for better or worse)

Today will be short. Initially, I wasn’t going to send an update this month, but I was convinced otherwise.

I’m moving to NYC soon, much earlier than expected! Apparently the consulting industry has experienced “tremendous bounce back” and firms are noticing all their consultants are at 100% utilization. Hmmm, maybe it was all the hiring freezes? So yes, I was compelled to send a letter of resignation for the first time to my beloved sales job— luckily they were incredibly supportive and I owe them such a debt of gratitude.

As you can imagine, there’s a metric ton of administrative BS that comes with moving countries, but also a creeping sense that life is about to start moving real fast. I’ve become delightfully attached to the health-oriented, fulfillment-chasing attitude of Vancouver, thus, there will be some considerable growing pains.

Latest Happenings

  • Vancouver Fashion Week: Scored some last minute tickets from a friend. It was so packed that we had to stand on some seats outside of the bleachers, which was already such a good spot that it was immediately stolen as soon as we stepped out. I took a photo with the VFW background which was awkward as hell. Favorite designer: Jumper Zhang

  • If You are the One (非诚勿扰): The classic, memeable, and surprisingly educational show was a hidden content gem. As someone who can barely sit through a commercial, I watched the whole 90-minute episode. They have these two relationship therapists who intersperse advice throughout the tacky game show format.

  • Injury on Frosty Mountain: This hike should’ve been a breeze, looking strictly at it’s elevation and length. I was sorely wrong. For some reason, my IT band flared up and it was tough to put weight on my left knee. My friend also got injured so we were mutually struggling down this damn mountain. I limped for the next two hours in a style not dissimilar to how Terry Fox runs… The larches were not worth it, but the memories were.

  • Networking Part 2: By now, I’ve met more than a few people that have made it big with SMMA as a means to entrepreneurship. Yes, it sounds like snake oil, and I’m sure the gurus are bullshit, but it works. These people are on track for $10MM net worth by 35 with no college degree. Backup option?
